We recently featured an interview with Cristian Worthington, the co-founder of MondoPlayer (a video content discovery app), in which we discussed how MondoPlayer and Flockler combine to offer great tools for content marketers. Inspired by this (and in case you've been living under a rock) we've put together a list of the great advantages of video content marketing, as well as identifying some startling statistics that should make you wake up and smell the video content of your coffee!
1) Video is the most engaging form of content
The stats: 90% of users say that product videos are helpful in the decision-making process. (Hubspot)
What Cristian says: "Engagement is usually measured by what's shared and liked. With video, there is general agreement that video is between 10-12 times more engaging than text content."
2) Video compliments other forms of content
The stats: Embedding videos on landing pages can increase conversion rates by 80%. (Hubspot)
What Cristian says: "At MondoPlayer we've coined a phrase called ‘video rich content'. This is content that is not exclusively video but might have an article wrapped around it. The text attracts the search engine, and then the video attracts the human. Once people's eyeballs are on your landing page or website, the written content provides the context and the video increases their reasons to stay."
3) Video is the most shared form of content
The stats: Video is shared 1200% (12x) more than links and text combined. (Simply Measured)
What Cristian says: "For brand marketing people the attraction of video marketing is self-evident. If you’re building your brand, then engagement is key. It's all about increasing the time people spend on your site. The other thing is that if the content is compelling – like with video – then they are more likely to return."
4) Video reduces the cost of leads and sales conversions
The stats: 64% of customers are more likely to buy a product online after watching a video about it. (Hubspot)
What Cristian says: "If you have some sort of gated content or giveaway, the video provides a fertile ground in which to have your lead magnet presented. We have found that people are spending more time on our gated content and when they spend more time they're more likely to engage. Our gated video content is by far the cheapest source of leads we have."
5) Video is the most dominant form of content
The stats: Internationally, Facebook video posts have increased 75% annually.
What Cristian says: "Video constitutes over two-thirds of traffic on the internet. Mark Zuckerberg has said that in five years Facebook will be almost entirely video. That's where the market is headed – it's going to be huge!"
6) Video is content of the highest quality
The stats: It is estimated that a single minute of video content is the equivalent of 1.8 million words.
What Cristian says: "There is this phenomenon that because people are used to consuming very valuable pieces of video, everybody becomes a critic with very high standards. For instance, it's nothing to sit at home and watch 100 million dollar movie. Increasingly, companies are embedding their video on their sites and not putting it on YouTube because it's content that costs them a lot of money to develop and they want you to come to their website to see it."
7) Video is easy to access
The stats: According to YouTube, mobile video consumption grows by 100% every year. (Forbes)
What Cristian says: "When consuming video on mobile in the past there was concern about using up bandwidth, but now even mobile devices can display video with ease."
8) Video is becoming the default medium
The stats: According to Cisco Systems, IP video traffic globally will constitute 82% of all consumer internet traffic by 2021
What Cristian says: "Now you are seeing video with many different purposes not formerly thought of. Videos are being used for things like audio interviews and podcasts where there is only a still image. Video is becoming the default medium to deliver all information."
